Pre-care
If you usually suffer from dry skin or have any areas of dryness, moisturise daily leading up to the tan to ensure the dryness has cleared up as much as possible. However, it is very important NOT to apply any moisturisers within 24 hours of having the tan. Moisturisers will create a barrier between the skin and the tan and prevent it from sticking, meaning you can have uneven results.
Please ensure that any hair removal has been done 24 hours prior to the tan. This ensures that your pores have had enough time to close, helping achieve an even result. Any shaving or waxing done after the tan will also pull the product off with it!
A full body exfoliation is vital to be done 24 hours prior to the tan. This helps give a deep clean to the skin, remove any dead skin cells or flakey skin, and will provide a smooth even surface for your tan to be applied to, promoting an even coverage and a longer-lasting tan.
DO NOT apply any deodorants or perfumes on the day of your tanning appointment. This is extremely important! If you are wearing any deodorants or perfumes, the ingredients in those react with those in the tanning solution, causing it to turn green!
DO NOT apply any moisturises, including on the face for the reasons mentioned above. It will create a barrier between the skin and the tan and prevent it from sticking, meaning you can have uneven results.
Showering should be done 4-5 hours prior to your appointment. Showering too close to your tan can result in the pH of your skin being off, resulting in your tan not developing properly and leaving pitted pours.
Please ensure you arrive make-up and jewellery free and wearing dark, loose-fitted clothing (a baggy t-shirt dress is usually best) and loose or slip-on shoes. If you do get any tan on your clothing, it does usually wash out easily, however, dark clothing is still recommended.
You will be provided with all the garments needed for your tan and your technician will ensure you have followed all the steps above before starting and run you through all the aftercare steps before you leave, as well as tips on how to maintain your tan for as long as possible.
Aftercare
Depending on which brand and type of tan you have had, depends on your development time. Your technician will confirm this with you before you leave your appointment.
Your initial shower should be a RINSE only. DO NOT use any shower gels, soaps, shampoos or any products during your first shower and ensure you dry yourself carefully. Any showers after this initial one (no sooner than in 8 hours time), can be as normal (using shower creams, gels, etc).
During your initial shower, do not worry about the amount of product rinsing off your skin. All tanning products have a bronzing agent, that allows the technicians (or yourself if have done a self-tan in the past) to see where you have applied the product to. This is what you see rinsing off in the shower. The tanning agent is still on your skin and will continue to develop further after your initial shower. So also, don’t worry if you don’t feel ‘bronzed enough’, in a further 8 hours’ time, your tan will have developed further (even though you have had your initial rinse).
DO NOT wear any tight-fitting clothing (eg leggings) until at least 8 hours after your spray tan and avoid exercising or heavy sweating during this time also. Your tan can still develop for 8 hours after your initial spray! Even if you have been told you can shower after 2 hours.
You can moisturise 24 hours after getting your tan to maintain a longer-lasting tan.
*Brides and Bridesmaids – Once your tan is developed, please avoid moisturising until after the wedding to ensure no running of the tan. Please contact our team to determine the best timing based on the date of your wedding and when best to receive your tan.
Long exposure to water (swimming, salt water, hot baths) can reduce and fade your tan.
Once you are ready to remove your tan or it has started to be patchy/fade, a full body exfoliation, will remove the tan.
