Why is it important to wear SPF everyday?
Wearing SPF every day is crucial for several reasons, all of which contribute to protecting the skin from short-term and long-term damage, including aging!
- Protection from UV Rays: Daily application of SPF helps shield the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, both UVA & UVB. UVA rays age the skin, leading to premature aging signs such as wrinkles and age spots. UVB rays are responsible for sunburn. Both types can damage the skin’s DNA.
- Prevention of Premature Aging: Exposure to UV rays accelerates the aging process of the skin, leading to the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of elasticity. Daily SPF use can significantly reduce these signs of aging.
- Maintaining Even Skin Tone: Sun exposure can trigger hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Using SPF daily helps prevent these issues, promoting an even skin tone.
- Protection Against Sunburn: Sunburn damages the skin, and repeated sunburns, even mild ones, can cause considerable skin damage over time. Regular use of SPF helps prevent sunburn.
- Enhanced Health of the Skin: The essential proteins in the skin, like collagen, keratin, and elastin, are protected by SPF. These proteins are necessary for keeping the skin smooth and healthy.
- Prevention of Skin Cancer: Regular use of sunscreen has been shown to reduce the risk of developing skin cancers, especially melanoma, which is the most dangerous form.
UV exposure can occur even on cloudy days or through windows or whilst driving in your car, incorporating a broad-spectrum sunscreen (protecting against both UVA and UVB rays) with an SPF of 30 or higher into your daily skincare routine is recommended regardless of the weather or season!
